Reading and literacy are the key to all learning. If kids canít read, they canít learn. Unfortunately, two thirds of Idahoís 4th grade students have only basic or below basic reading proficiency. Only a third of our students are proficient or advanced readers.

If a student is not a proficient reader by 4th grade they have a higher probability of dropping out of school, certainly not going on to post-secondary and even ending up in the criminal justice system.

We need to correct this problem and get all Idaho students reading proficiently by 4th grade. That way they can read to learn for the rest of their educational journey.

The purpose of the 2nd Reading and Literacy Summit is to focus like a laser on ways we can help Idahoís students learn how to read.

Please join us for this important discussion which will lead to specific steps we can take to get all kids ready to read by 4th grade.
